FAQ

REGISTERING FOR CLASS

Do I need to register to attend a class at the studio?

There is no need to register for most of our classes.

With social distancing measures occasionally one of our 5:45pm class reaches capacity, and you might miss out, but this is extremely rare. If you arrive early 8-10 minutes early you are guaranteed to get a place in any class. If you don’t mind, you can register for class in advance, but if you decide not to show up please deregister so your place can be freed up for someone else.

Do I need to register for beginner classes?

If you are a beginner, you may be asked to register for each class that you wish to attend as these classes can be very popular and fill up quickly. But you don’t need to register every time you want to attend a class; we will notify you if you need to do so.

Do I need to register to attend a class online?

Yes, you do need to register to attend our livestream classes in order to access the broadcast. You do not need to register to access our private Darwin Yoga Space On Demand Facebook group.

Do I need to register for a special event like a workshop or Master Class?

Yes, you need to register for all special events to help us track how many places are left for other students at any given time.

Can I just turn up on the day to do a class?

Yes! Please arrive 10 minutes early so we can enter your details in our database.  If you have done yoga before but not Iyengar yoga we recommend that you attend your first few classes below the level that you are used to in order to get familiar with how we do things in our classes.

CLOTHING AND YOGA EQUIPMENT

What do I need to bring?

Our Covid protocol requires you to bring a large bath towel to class. You need to cover your bolster or blankets that you sit on with your towel. If you forget your towel, we have them for sale at low cost or you can hire one for $2.

We provide all other props and equipment, but you can bring yours if you like.

Whether you bring your own props or use ours you will be asked to wipe them all with a disinfectant spray at the end of class.

What should I wear to class?

Just wear a comfortable pair of shorts or pants and a singlet or t-shirt. It is better not to wear too tight fitting clothes but nothing too loose either. We need to be able to see your knees and elbows.

FLEXIBILITY, FITNESS, AND INJURIES

I am not flexible, can I do yoga?

Of course! Yoga is for everybody. You don’t need to be able to touch your toes or sit cross-legged on the floor or anything like that to participate in our classes. We cater for all body types and ranges of strength, fitness, and flexibility.

I have an injury, can I do your classes?

Yes definitely, all of our teachers are very well trained to deal with any injury or health condition. We can easily modify any yoga pose to suit our students’ individual needs.

Will yoga help me lose weight?

It is likely that yoga will help you lose weight. Our yoga is very physical, and it also helps to level our moods so we are less likely to experience the extremes of anxiety and depression which can lead to challenging relationships with food.

HOW MANY TIMES A WEEK SHALL I COME TO CLASS?

We see the biggest improvement in our students when they regularly attend at least 3-4 times a week but if you can make it to 2 only you will still see improvements. The main thing is to try to be as consistent as possible, week in, week out.

WHAT IS IYENGAR YOGA?

Iyengar yoga the method of yoga we teach. It is named after the yoga master called BKS Iyengar who has a lot to do with yoga being so popular in the West since the 80’s. Iyengar Yoga is well known for its emphasis on good alignment. It is a very well structured, step by step kind of approach, for beginners especially. Our classes are very dynamic and strengthen the immune, respiratory, and nervous systems and help reduce stress levels.

ARE YOU TEACHERS WELL QUALIFIED?

Our teachers need to have done a minimum of 3 years of yoga before starting to train to become a teacher. The teacher training runs over 3 years and then then the trainee teacher completes a thorough examination (assessment) via our national body, Iyengar Yoga Australia, which is internationally recognised.

DO YOU OFFER PRIVATE CLASSES?

Yes. We have two teachers who offer private classes: Carole Baillargeon and Anja Bhelmer. Just email Renee at office@darwinyogaspace.com with three days and times that you are available and the reasons you want a private class and she will book a time for you. Cost is $95/one hour, $75/45 minutes, $50/30 minutes.

CAN I COME TO YOGA IF I AM PREGNANT?

Yes, you can come to any class of your level as long as you are at least 12 weeks into the pregnancy. Our teachers are well qualified to guide you throughout every stage of your pregnancy all the way to when you are due to give birth.

DO YOU HAVE A COVID SAFE PROTOCOL?
